The Heartless and the Hopeless

Sun Sep 6, 2009, 2:06 PM
So I've come to the conclusion that I am absolutely hopeless. For those of you who actually read what I write, you may have noticed a kinda long break between my last couple uploads and the ones before that. While I was at UCLA over the summer I decided that I had gotten over the girl whom I had been attracted to last year. Of course, life is never so simple as that, and I again find myself hopelessly head over heals for this girl who, as you likely know from one of my most recent uploads, does not share the feelings I have. So I've been working through that, and again, writing serves as a bit of a crutch in that. But you already knew that. After all, it's why most of us are here, isn't it?

So much for the depressing stuff. Now for the fun stuff: Music. I'm subscribed to the Fray's youtube channel, and recently they uploaded a music video for their cover of Kanye West's song "Heartless". To be honest, it's absolutely amazing. I really like the Fray, but I hate rap, so I was a bit skeptical at first, but it was amazing. The song itself is great. Their cover is fantastic, and the music video just takes it to a whole nuther level. My music interests tend to swing like a tire swing all over; from metal to acoustic to rap (good rap, think Fort Minor) and then to other stuff. Recently it's been even more ridiculous though. I've gone from listening to Rage Against the Machine to listening to Jack Johnson within a couple of minutes, and not for any particular reason except that I am craving it. I apologize if this journal bores you, but hey, you're the one who read it.

  • Mood: Neutral
  • Listening to: The Fray, Tally Hall, Rage, Jack Johnson, Others
  • Reading: Textbooks
  • Watching: Whatever is on
  • Playing: FFVII

I'm here to share and be shared with. I never said I was going to like it. I never said I wasn't. And I will do my very best to never say something I don't believe.

I'm here to express how I feel. I know that we all need it. I hope that I'm not alone in this knowledge. And I hope, above all else, that you believe that art is about no more and no less than what the artist intends.

This is art. Don't tell me how to enjoy it.

...so...Why is it that your quote is Occam's razor attributed to Einstein?
:icontyveris:
Because although Occam's razor deals with a similar subject, it is not in fact the same quote. Occam's razor is, according to wikipedia, roughly translated from latin to "entities must not be multiplied beyond necessity". This essentially means that when you have to competing theories, the simpler one is more likely.

"Everything should be as simple as it can be, and no simpler."
- Albert Einstein
:icondarmouth:
Yes, I know, but it is the same thing. And it does not meant that the simpler one is more likely, it means that the simpler one is more rational. Because it doesn't make sense to multiply explanations beyond the necessary. Your Einstein quote tells you to do exactly the same thing. Occam said if first buddy.
:icontyveris:
You can pretend that you're insulting me by explaining that Einstein didn't come up with an idea. To be honest it doesn't matter that much to me. I prefer the way Einstein said it, you prefer the way Occam said it. Thats fine with me. The facts are, you are intimidated by my defense of my position, and so you use words like "buddy" to belittle me.

But, you've still failed to realize the purpose of my belittlement, even though buddy wasn't meant to be belittling... Or perhaps you have finally realized it, and answered my question. Thanks! :D
